Uh-oh, Travelers! The annual celebration of General MiDi has arrived in a time of DANGER for the ZRainbow. Lest the Grayking grey the ZRainbow, the MiDi must flow! We're so glad you have decided to join us for this special jubilee - an artful rest - as we power the Geometrie up with MiDi so that it may ward the Grayking's "Grayking Bick".

It is portentéd that this year's competition will go on smoothly as it's number of 31 (thirty-one) is in fact PRIME and NON-FACTORABLE, as is our SOLITARY MiDi in its GREATNESS!!

Thank the pantheons: For after all these years, MiDi is still as relevant as ever! Nevertheless, our celebrations are for General MiDi which is an amazing standard that could use more love! Welaway: every year we come together to honor this underappreciated standard!
We love MiDi and the POWER of ELEGANT, USEFUL STANDARDS!

RULES (=^-ω-^=) GUIDELINES

RULES

  1. Submit a MIDI file (.mid) that follows the General MIDI standard to this Google Form: Tandy 2024 Submission Form
      2. ◊ Audio files will not be accepted, .mid files only
  2. Make sure you don't use audio plugins or outboard effects!
      3. ◊ You may use General MIDI standard Reverb and Chorus sends (effects 1 and 2 = CC #91 and #93 respectively)
  3. Submissions must be less than 2.5 minutes. Our judges don’t got all day!
  4. Due Date: January 31, 2024

THE THREE (3 , III , 3️⃣ , ⚂ ) METHODS

  1. ⚀In-Browser App (SIMPLEST)
      2. ◊ Use the official P.C.o.Tandy Certified General MIDI in-browser app to make your composition! Simple and efficient: Signal Web App
  2. ⚁Engraving Software (Musescore, Sibelius, Finale, Dorico, etc.) (Good if you read music!)
      3. ◊ These Software can automatically format your work to General MIDI when you export.
  3. ⚂DAWs (Reaper, Ableton, or Logic, etc.) (Not as complicated as it seems, but it seems complicated)
    1. Write your composition using General MIDI compliant software instruments.
    2. Search “General MIDI in [your DAW name]” on your favorite search engine to find specific implementation instructions (they vary from DAW to DAW).
        3. You can use a soundfont to get the exact sounds right: Google Drive
    3. Format your MIDI to General MIDI compliant program changes
        4. Here is a chart of all General Midi instruments and their corresponding Program Changes.
    4. Export all of your MIDI as a single MIDI file and send it in our Submission Form.

  4. The overall winner of the competition will receive an modest cash prize and the official title of "The People’s Coalition of TANDY GM General MiDi, 31st Metaball–Lyke Baron Biwene'd PRIME Competition ZRainbow Geometrie 2024 740 Award"! Award category winners will receive prestigious bespoke titles for professional and personal use.
